 Introduction

This project is acoustic phonetic analysis of the English consonants with Praat.

There would be Aspiration and VOT, Voiced vs. Voiceless Consonants, Fricatives, and Liquids vs. Rhotic Vowel.

Aim

By the help of Praat, we camp up with a detailized acoustic examination of English consonants, and we tried to identify their similarities and differences by providing definitions, analyzing waveforms and spectrograms, and providing our own examination of these data.

Our observation

The word ''sky'' has the shortest voice of the three words, and it has less vibration after the consonant /S/ , probably because soud /S/ is a voiceless fricative sound and it weakens the vibration after it. Compare to the other two words, they all begin with voiced and voiceless velar, they both have strong vibration from the vowel after them.
